A Canadian tourist who was asleep inside her motel room in Belize in northern Ambergris Caye was stabbed this past Sunday.

It was first reported the victim was a Canadian tourist. According to a friend who contacted eTN, Christina Potvin lives in Belize

This Canadian expat who was asleep inside her motel room in Belize at the Mara Laguna Resort in northern Ambergris Caye was awakened by an intruder who stabbed her 4 times this past Sunday morning.

Forty-one-year-old Christina Potvin said she was asleep when a noise awoke her and after opening her eyes she realized a man was standing by her bed. She began to struggle with him as she tried to push him outside the room, but that was when he pulled out a knife and started stabbing her.

Potvin explained that the intruder entered the apartment by breaking through a kitchen window. Her children were sleeping on the sofa in the living room when the attacker entered.

After the police arrived, Christina was rushed to San Pedro Polyclinic where she was treated after determining that her injuries were remarkably not life-threatening. She sustained two wounds on her face, two to her chest, and one on her upper left arm, as well as suffered from a head contusion. After reviewing x-rays, it showed that she did not suffer any internal damage.

The police listed the incident as an aggravated burglary, although they claim they could not determine if anything was stolen, even though Potvin said she thinks some of her cash is missing.

No arrest of the attacker has been made.
